Brian Keenan, born Brian Edmund Peter Keenan on January 28, 1943 in New York City, New York, was an American musician, best known as the drummer for The Chambers Brothers (1965 to 1971).
As a child, Keenan lived in Conisbrough near Doncaster, Yorkshire, England, and Ire land.
Prior to his work with The Chambers Brothers (1965 to 1971), Keenan played drums in England with the pre-"Doo Wah Diddy Diddy" group, Manfred Mann. He also had his own group, the Losers, which was the house band at Ondine, the first discotheque in New York City.
While with The Chambers Brothers, who predated Sly and the Family Stone as harbingers of psychedelic soul, Keenan wrote one of the band's early songs, "Love Me Like the Rain," which appears on the Shout album.
In 1971, after major, unresolved financial abuses by the group's managemen t, Keenan left the group. He started up his own recording studio in Connecticut, later suffering a fatal heart attack on October 5, 1985. Brian Keen an is buried at Queen of Peace cemetery in Stamford, CT.
