Frank Butler

Frank Butler, born February 18, 1928 in Kansas City, Missouri was an American jazz drummer largely associated with the West Coast sound. While Butler never became a household name, he was highly regarded by his fellow musicians, performing with such jazz icons as Duke Ellington, Dave Brubeck, John Coltrane, Miles Davis and Art Pepper throughout the 1950s and 1960s.

In the mid-to-late 1950s, Butler was a member of the Curtis Counce Quintet.

Sidelined for many years by an addiction to heroin, Frank Butler never recorded an album under his own name until the 1970s.

Butler died on July 24, 1984 in Ventura, California; he was 56.
