Roy Haynes, born Roy Owen Haynes on March 13, 1925 in Boston, MS, is an American jazz drummer and bandleader.
Haynes, with a music career spanning more than 70 years, is one of the most recorded drummers in jazz, playing a wide range of styles including swing, bebop, jazz-fusion and avant-garde jazz.
Roy Haynes has worked with the likes of Gary Burton, John Coltrane, Chick Corea, Miles Davis, Eric Dolphy, Stan Getz, Dizzy Gillespie, Wardell Gray, Henry Grimes, Andrew Hill, Christian McBride, Jackie McLean, Pat Metheny, Thelonious Monk, Gerry Mulligan, Charlie Parker, Art Pepper, Bud Powell, Sonny Rollins, Horace Tapscott, Sarah Vaughan, and Lester Young.
In 2011, The Recording Academy presented Roy Haynes with the Lifetime Achievement Award during the 53rd Grammy Award ceremony.
