Mike Portnoy, born Michael Stephen Portnoy on April 20, 1967 in Long Beach, New York, is an American drummer, best known as the former drummer, backing vocalist, and a co-founder of the progressive metal band, Dream Theater.
Portnoy is known for his many side projects and tribute bands such as Transatlantic, Liquid Tension Experiment, Neal Morse, OSI, Avenged Sevenfold, Adrenaline Mob, Stone Sour, Flying Colors, Bigelf, and more recently, The Winery Dogs.
