Don Brewer

Don Brewer, born September 3, 1948 in Flint, Michigan, is an American drummer and singer, best known for his work with legendary rock band, Grand Funk Railroad.

Brewer entered the music scene at the age of 12 with his first band, The Red Devils. Developing his own unique style, Brewer moves on to his next band, The Jazzmasters, which later evolved into Terry Knight and the Pack, where Don experiences his first top 40 hit "I Who Have Nothing" (1966).

In 1969, Brewer, along with Mark Farner and Mel Schacher, form one of rock's first major power trios, Grand Funk Railroad. Brewer's career sky-rocketed in 1973, with Grand Funk Raildroad's #1 hit, "We’re An American Band", which Brewer not only wrote, but sang while playing his historical drums licks.  He is also credited with "Shinin’ On", "Walk Like A Man", and sang lead vocals on the hit, "Some Kind of Wonderful".  Throughout the band's history, Grand Funk Railroad has recorded an impressive twelve Gold albums and ten Platinum albums.

Don was recruited to play drums and tour with Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band (1983 - 1987), with the final year being the largest grossing tour of the decade. Brewer went on to tour extensively with Seger in 2006, 2007, 2011, and 2012.

Some of Brewer other accolades include a bongo feature on Frank Zappa’s song “Let Me Take You To The Beach”, a feature in Classic Rock Drum Solos, Modern Drummer Magazine, VH-1’s "Behind The Music",  and Classic Drummer Magazine's 2011 Hall of Fame. He's also had numerous television appearances with both Bob Seger and Grand Funk Railroad, including shows such as David Letterman, Jay Leno, and Good Morning America.

Since 2000, Don Brewer has continued to tour with Grand Funk Railroad, performing at least 40 shows a year.
