JR Baker

JR Baker, born James Roy Baker on September 19, 1948 in Martinsburg, West Virginia, was best known as the maker and co-owner of Soundseat, Inc.

Early in his life, James studied engineering and architecture at Northern Virginia Community College. His career as an architect began when he was offered a job, even before attaining his degree, by an architecture firm. James quickly grew tired of the 9 to 5 lifestyle and sought other options.

Throughout his life, James was in the construction trade and was a musician, particularly a drummer par excellence. Those two interests became his business, Soundseat, Inc. With this business, he touched the lives of many people. James was always ready to help out someone in need, and gave willingly of himself.

James attended Falls Church High School in Falls Church, VA., graduating in 1966. He studied engineering at Northern Virginia Community College. He was of the Catholic faith.

JR died on Friday, August 16, 2013 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center; he was 64.

Preceding him in death was his niece, Amy Baker. In addition to his wife, son, and mother, he is survived by brother, Mark Baker (and his wife, Sue) of Fredericksburg, VA and sister, Mary Ann Thweatt (and her husband, Ray) of Fredericksburg, VA. He is survived by several loving nephews.
