I first learned of the Joyful Noise Drum Company in November 2006 while reporting for the Drummer Café at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in Austin, TX. It was during my interview with Joyful Noise president, Curt Waltrip, that I realized the standard from which I measured all percussion products, and their manufacturers, was to be forever changed.
In the months and years that followed, I’ve spoken at length with Curt as well reported on Joyful Noise products during several trade shows like the Chicago Drum Show.
Fast forward now almost three years later to the Joyful Noise Drum Company Day, held on May 20th, 2009 at Fork’s Drum Closet in Nashville, TN. There I was able to play and closely examine over 30 hand-crafted Joyful Noise seamless metal and steam-bent wood snares, as well as one of their new American Classic steam-bent drumsets. After interviewing the team of world-class craftsmen responsible for all these extraordinary instruments, plus hearing from professional players and others in the music industry, I had a revelation; I needed to share this once in a lifetime opportunity with the world.
So after six months of editing and gathering additional footage, this video, shot in high-definition and almost one-hour in length, is finally finished.
I sincerely believe that after viewing this documentary, you’ll come away feeling the way I do now; that the Joyful Noise Drum Company has set a new benchmark for the drum and percussion industry, especially in the areas of instrument sonority, beauty, and manufacturer integrity.
It is my hope that you’ll also take a moment to visit JoyfulNoiseDrumCompany.com, read Curt Waltrip’s “Message from the President”, and learn more about the passion, power and purpose behind this company’s service to the drum and percussion community worldwide.
