Just in case nobody's heard of these guys, here they are. Tim Storms (the guy singing "Amazing Grace" can vibrate his vocal cords at 8 Hz or so--so only the overtones can be heard).

My favorite out of these guys is probably Ivan Rebroff. He's got an amazingly wide range (from Basso Profundo to Soprano, I believe), and even at low notes, I can still hear a lot more tone in his voice that I can hear in any of the other guys when they go that low.

Well, I never thought I'd see such a topic here.  It so happens that I'm something of a fan of bassos.

I'm interested (not so sure I'm personally qualified to say "glad") that you described Storms as "vibrating" his vocal cords; it apparently isn't truly singing at the extreme low notes, but applied vocal fry.  It qualifies as pitch, however, and therefore enough to unseat Dan Britton, who unseated J.D. Sumner, if I'm right.  Mr. Storms has a rather high speaking voice in relation to his range---it's an average baritone.  This isn't uncommon that I've seen, especially in European singers.

Ivan Rebroff is also a favorite of mine.  I think my favorite from both clips besides his example is Kurt Moll, as well as the Russian gentleman in the choir.  Most of the rest are just creaking.

Other favorites perhaps not as noted for their lowest notes but rather for the overall quality of their voice---I don't want to overlook that!---are Thurl Ravenscroft and Paul Robeson:

Another one I've discovered...Malcolm McEachern:

Oh, and not a bass per se---but Marian Anderson is deserving of note:

My friend, that's one thing we have in common. ;)

Also, I agree with what you said about most of them just creaking. I know they're really hitting the notes, but yeah, it sounds like they're belching or growling once they go down to a certain note.
