im just gonna start with this.  i am Horrid at the drums. The porblem here is that i try teaching myself but i jsut cant do it. and the few music teachers around here can bareley be called that. i want to eventually play prog drums. so i was just wondering if there is an actually good website where i can get drum lessons

Are you saying there's no decent teachers in South Florida?  I find that hard to believe.  Maybe somebody here can help you know where to look and who to contact.  You can't be more than an hour away from some killer players.  Hopefully your folks are willing to get you there.

If all else fails, contact our host Bart.  His video correspondence lessons are great.  I wish I had time to do more of them!

Good luck and keep us posted!

well then I guess my next question would be  does anyone have contact with any good teachers near south florida?

Use some of the links I provided in this thread:

Do a Google search for drum instructors in Florida.
Contact pro drum shops in your area ... such as Resurrection Drums.
Visit the  http://www.fivestardrumshops.com]Five Star Drum Shops  website for other drum shops that may be able to refer you to a good teacher.
Contact local colleges, music stores and universities to see who they might refer you to. You don't have to take lessons from those places that you call, so don't be afraid to call.

Unless you live out in the middle of no where, you should have no problem finding a teacher.

If you can't find a teacher or one that will teach you want you want to know, contact me about custom video correspondence lessons.

Also there's an ever growing number of lessons and articles right here at the Drummer Cafe. Do some looking around; you might find a few things that you can glean from.

Go to  http://www.rezdrums.com/]Resurrection Drums  in Hollywood, Florida. They have numerous teachers there, all with excellent credentials, and you should easily find somebody who's a good fit for what you want to accomplish.

an awesome online website is mikeslessons.com

Mike Johnston is an awesome guy and an incredible drummer.  He does LIVE lessons three days a week, 4 times each day.  He does begginner on sunday, intermediate on tuesday and advanced on wednesday (don't quote me on those last two)

All for 20 dollars a month, and you get mp3's, print outs of the sheetmusic, and the ability to watch all of the past lessons too!

It really is awesome, you can check out his free lessons on youtube.

I think I may sign up

There are probably 50 drummers on the Miami campus at any given time that would blow your mind -- it's a premiere school for drums. But I definitely recommend giving Ressurection a call first. They'll have people who are already actively teaching, which is a big plus.

I've been taking the online lessons with Mike Johnston and I have to say I've been learning a lot.  After playing drum for 20+ years, I'm still learning something even from the beginning lessons on Sundays.
