So at this local club they had an amatuer night for bands, (and you signed up) and my band played there(its a family-style place). first of all the audience loved it and people actually were listening. Then after ward the manager came up to our guitarist and said that we could play there for money every few weeks! So thats a good step for our band.

That's a good start.... ;)  Anytime a club owner asks your band is a good sign. You didn't have to grovel/beg to get the gig. All you had to do was show your talent, sound decent, and play music the crowd was receptive to. I wouldn't make any major changes, you've got something that's going right for you.   8)
