I am thinking about rolling myself a snare drum!  I work in a sheet metal fabrication shop and have all the equipment.  I could buy a piece of brass 40" x 6" and stitch weld it closed.  I could smooth off the edges of the weld, put a few creases it in with other machines.  We have another machine that can make it perfectly round.  Then I could bevel the edges, drill holes and buy the hardware.   I am considering this undertaking but have no idea what to expect.  I could get the stock metal for pretty cheap too, including a lot of free steel so I could do this again and again I suppose.
Thoughts?

I have a Mapex "Phosphor Bronze" snare. I don't know about making your own, but it sounds awesome.   ;)

Mister Acrolite

Go for it, and let us know how it comes out!

I second Mr. Acrolite's sentiment!

Do it! and take pics along the way! I would love to see it done from raw metal to completion.  bob.
