Offering one of the most exciting and diverse lineups of top drummers and drumming ever presented at the event, Modern Drummer magazine has announced that the 21st edition of the world-famous Modern Drummer Festival™ is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 21, 2011, in the Memorial Auditorium on the campus of Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey. The one-day event features a spectacular combination of clinics, performances, master classes, and hands-on activities, highlighted by an appearance by the legendary Horacio "El Negro" Hernandez (Santana, Michel Camilo, Jack Bruce) and the world premiere of his Latin jazz group the New World Order.

Additional 2011 Festival performing artists include:

· Aquiles Priester (Hangar)

· Jeff "Tain" Watts (Wynton Marsalis, Branford Marsalis, Kenny Garrett)

· Gil Sharone (Stolen Babies, Dillinger Escape Plan, Puscifer)

· Trevor Lawrence Jr. (Eminem, Herbie Hancock, Alicia Keys)

Extracurricular master classes and drum circles mark the continued expansion of the educational and recreational drumming activities that were incorporated into the Festival in 2010. The 2011 master classes, which require separate admission, will be taught by renowned drummer/educators John Riley (Vanguard Jazz Orchestra) and Jim Riley (Rascal Flatts), while all attendees are invited to participate in community drum circles held in the outdoor area adjacent to the theater (weather permitting).

The Modern Drummer Festival is one of the world's longest-running and most successful drumming events, and the 2011 edition occurs during Modern Drummer magazine's 35th Anniversary year-bringing together drummers, drum enthusiasts, and drum company representatives from across the United States and around the world. Previous MD Festivals have been generously supported by the drum industry's leading manufacturers and have featured the greatest drummers and percussionists on the planet. Advance tickets, as well as additional information on the event, artists, and sponsors, are available online from the new Festival micro-site at ModernDrummerFestival.net or by calling 973-239-4140.
