Hit Like A Girl Co-Founder And Executive Director To Take A Leave Of Absence
The Hit Like A Girl contest has announced that drum industry veteran, former Drum! magazine publisher and Hit Like A Girl contest co-founder, Phil Hood, will be stepping away from his position as Executive Director of the female drumming contest, effective January 1, 2018.
“The sale of Drum! and my recent move to southern California have given me the opportunity to take on new projects and spend more time with my family,” Hood explains. “I'll be continuing my involvement with the contest until January and then stepping away from the day-to-day activities for a while. It has been incredibly rewarding to see Hit Like A Girl become so successful and important for the drumming community as well as the drum business. In the capable hands of the management team we built over the past 6 years, I am confident it will continue to be so.”
“Phil’s guidance at the beginning and throughout the development of the contest has been invaluable,” comments David Levine, Hood’s HLAG partner and contest co-founder. “His presence will definitely be missed.”
The Hit Like A Girl global contest for female drummers was founded in 2012 by Phil Hood (Drum!), David Levine (Full Circle Management) and Mindy Abovitz Monk (Tom Tom). Now in its 7th year, the Hit Like A Girl Contest has had more than 2,500 participants from 50 countries and has received more than 50,000,000 online impressions. Sponsors include many of today’s leading drum, percussion, electronics, accessory and media companies while judges have included some of the most popular, most respected drummers on the planet.
