RUSH - Ultimate Drum Play-Along

Alfred's Ultimate Drum Play-Along: RUSH (CD/Book) gives you all that you need to jam with your favorite RUSH songs.

There are two versions of every song on the included CD: a full-performance track with an amazing sound-alike recording, and a professional accompaniment track without drums so you can play-along. When you use the CD in your Mac or Windows-based computer, the TNT (Tone 'N' Tempo) Changer lets you easily loop sections for practice, change the key, slow tracks down or speed them up without changing the pitch, and switch back and forth between the full performance and play-along tracks.

Titles include:

  • Anthem
  • Closer to the Heart
  • Spirit of Radio
  • Temples of Syrinx
  • Tom Sawyer
  • YYZ

The Ultimate Drum Play-Along: RUSH (CD/Book) is straight-forward and has just about everything you'd expect from a high-quality play-along package.

The drummer, Noam Lederman, did a decent job on the full-performance tracks. His performance overall isn't as tight as what Neil Peart plays on the original recordings, and Noam does take some liberties, straying from the notated drum charts. This really isn't a big deal since the performance tracks are just a guide, but certainly worth noting. All of the accompaniment tracks have a click track running throughout; there's no way to mute it. The TNT technology is great and does what it's supposed to do, allowing the performer to slow down or speed up the audio track as well as change the key of the song.

The book comes with two sets of charts; the drum transcription for each song, and a combination chart with music notation, melody lines, lyrics, and drum notation. The transcriptions seem to be accurate although the print on all of the charts is a little on the small side, making it difficult to read while on the music stand. There's no preforation on the drum charts, so what's in the book stays in the book.

I feel comfortable recommending Ultimate Drum Play-Along: RUSH to anyone interested playing along to some of RUSH's most popular songs.
